MATERIALS I USE
(which can be used as a suggested list for my classes and workshops):

PAINT (with brand names I prefer...but for my classes, please just use any good brand within your budget):

* Titanium White (Lefranc & Bourgeois)
* Viridian (Rembrandt)
* Ultramarine Blue (Rembrandt)
* Ivory Black (Rembrandt)
* Cadmium Yellow Light (Rembrandt or Winsor & Newton)
* Cadmium Red Medium (Rembrandt or Winsor & Newton)
* Alizarin Crimson Permanent (Winsor & Newton)
* Burnt Sienna (Winsor & Newton) - AND/OR - Transparent Oxide Red (Rembrandt)
* Indian Red or English Red Light (Winsor & Newton)...(I tend to use this color a lot when painting desert scenes...not a lot otherwise)

MEDIUM:

* Odorless mineral spirits (I use a truly odorless version; either "Neutral-thin" by ECO-HOUSE or "Gamsol" by GAMBLIN).
* For cleaning brushes in the studio I use Turpenoid Natural, and just let my brushes soak in it overnight before rinsing them in water (let the water evaporate before using them to paint)... outdoors, I simply wash my brushes in the mineral spirits.
* Walnut oil (I use this EXTREMELY sparingly)

CANVAS:

(For my classes, anything will do, including cotton canvas, real linen, or gessoed boards. I suggest nothing over 16"x20" unless you're very experienced).

I use an oil-primed linen canvas (#13 & #66) by "Claessen's". It is from Holland, and quite expensive, but worth it in my opinion. (It can be ordered through www.jerrysartarama.com or www.dickblick.com and others).

BRUSHES:

(any good brushes will work for my classes, but here's what I use...)

* "Silver, Grand Prix" brand bristle brushes (sizes 1-12)
* Langnickel 5500 series brushes (sizes 2-20)
* Red sable brushes (flats and rounds), mostly for figure painting and for signing the paintings.

OTHER:

* Paper towels (Viva brand is best) or other rags for wiping brushes

FOR ALL MY CLASSES:

* Camera (for photographing subjects we will be painting in class, including models)
* Sketch book AND/OR notebook for taking notes
* Portable easel if you have one, or you can use the ones at the Art Center for my indoor classes (If they don't specify outdoor, then they are indoors).

If I'm missing anything obvious, or if you have any questions, feel free to call me at (435)752-3316.
